LDK Congress Confirms Leader, Opening Door to Kosovo Coalition Talks
Vetevendosje and the LDK will likely resume coalition talks following Lumir Abdixhiku’s confirmation as LDK leader – but his narrow victory has weakened his authority over his MPs, experts warn.
On July 30, Lumir Abdixhiku entered a large conference room on the outskirts of Pristina under the strong belief that he was being summoned to pass a test which was both “unnecessary and harmful”.
The test, which he narrowly passed, was an unprecedented one for his Democratic League of Kosovo, LDK, in nearly 37 years of existence.
Some 140 party delegates filed a no-confidence motion against him, citing the party’s poorer-than-expected performance in the June 7 parliamentary polls.
Abdixhiku survived the motion; 170 party delegates voted for him to stay at the helm of LDK and only 152 voted against.
