This Copyright Policy governs the ownership, protection, and permitted use of all intellectual property across United Cultures 26 platforms, websites, applications, and services worldwide. It forms part of our Terms of Use and applies to every visitor and user of any UC platform.
1.1 All content published across any United Cultures platform — including but not limited to text, articles, descriptions, page copy, news, data, cultural profiles, country profiles, territory data, world cultures directory, event listings, project descriptions, job listings, and all written material — is the exclusive intellectual property of Stichting United Cultures, unless explicitly attributed to a third-party contributor.
1.2 All visual and multimedia content — including photographs, illustrations, graphics, icons, logos, banners, video content, audio files, interactive features, animations, and page layouts — is owned by or licensed exclusively to United Cultures and is protected accordingly.
1.3 All structural and technical elements — including website architecture, navigation design, database schemas, API endpoints, portal layouts, code, CSS, JavaScript, PHP scripts, and the overall design system of all 26 UC platforms — are proprietary to United Cultures.
1.4 The United Cultures name, wordmark, logo, slogan, and all associated branding elements are registered trademarks (No. 011367737, registered 30 April 2013). See our Trademark Policy for full details.
⚠️ These prohibitions apply to all individuals, companies, organisations, governments, and any other entity worldwide — without exception.
2.1 No Reproduction. You may not copy, reproduce, download, print, screenshot, screen-record, or otherwise capture any content from any UC platform in whole or in part.
2.2 No Distribution. You may not publish, share, forward, broadcast, transmit, or distribute any UC content to any person, platform, website, social media channel, publication, or broadcast medium.
2.3 No Commercial Use. You may not use any UC content, design, imagery, or data for any commercial purpose — including advertising, marketing, product packaging, business pitches, grant applications, or revenue-generating publications.
2.4 No Scraping or Automated Collection. You may not use bots, crawlers, scrapers, spiders, or any automated tool to extract, collect, index, or aggregate any UC content or data.
2.5 No Derivative Works. You may not modify, adapt, translate, create derivative works from, or build upon any UC content without prior written authorisation.
2.6 No AI Training. You may not use any UC content, text, imagery, data, or structural information for training, fine-tuning, or evaluating any artificial intelligence, machine learning, or automated decision-making system.
2.7 No Framing or Embedding. You may not frame, embed, mirror, or display any UC platform or content within another website or application without written authorisation.
3.1 Personal Viewing. You may browse and view UC content for personal, non-commercial informational purposes during a normal browsing session.
3.2 Sharing Links. You may share links (URLs) to UC pages and content on social media or by email, provided the link directs to the original UC page and is not used in a commercial context.
3.3 Press Mentions. Journalists and media professionals may briefly quote UC content for the purpose of news reporting, provided the source is clearly attributed as "United Cultures (unitedcultures.org)" and the use is strictly editorial.
3.4 Authorised Member Contributions. Registered UC members who contribute content through the Using of Content platform grant United Cultures a licence to use their submissions as described in their contributor agreement.
3.5 Written Authorisation. Any use beyond the above requires prior written authorisation from United Cultures. Submit requests to copyright@unitedcultures.org.
4.1 United Cultures actively monitors all 26 platforms and the wider internet for copyright infringement. We use automated detection tools, reverse image search, content fingerprinting, and access log analysis to identify unauthorised use.
4.2 Immediate Remedies. Upon detecting infringement, United Cultures may without prior notice: (a) issue cease-and-desist letters; (b) file DMCA takedown notices with hosting providers, search engines, and social media platforms; (c) terminate platform access for the infringing party; (d) revoke any membership or authorisation previously granted.
4.3 Civil Claims. United Cultures will pursue civil litigation seeking injunctive relief, compensatory damages, statutory damages up to €100,000 per infringed work, disgorgement of all profits derived from the infringement, and recovery of all legal costs and attorneys' fees.
4.4 Criminal Prosecution. Wilful infringement at a commercial scale will be referred to law enforcement for criminal prosecution in all applicable jurisdictions.
4.5 No Sovereign Immunity. No individual, corporation, NGO, educational institution, government body, or sovereign state may claim immunity from enforcement of these rights.
5.1 If you believe your copyrighted material has been used on any UC platform without authorisation, or if you wish to report third-party infringement of UC intellectual property, contact our Copyright Officer:
5.2 A valid DMCA notice must include: (a) identification of the copyrighted work; (b) identification of the infringing material and its location; (c) your contact information; (d) a statement of good faith belief; (e) a statement of accuracy under penalty of perjury; (f) your physical or electronic signature.
5.3 Counter-notices and disputes regarding copyright removal can also be directed to the same address.
6.1 This Copyright Policy is governed by the laws of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, the EU Copyright Directive (2019/790), the Berne Convention for the Protection of Literary and Artistic Works, the WIPO Copyright Treaty, and the Universal Copyright Convention.
6.2 This Policy operates in conjunction with our Terms of Use and Privacy Policy. In the event of any conflict, the most restrictive provision applies.
6.3 United Cultures reserves the right to update this Policy at any time. The current version is always published at unitedcultures.org/copyright.
